Back in 2005, I made a radical decision - to leave the company I co-founded, to leave a job that was paying me well into the 6-figures, in order to do ... NOTHING. I had almost no idea of what I wanted to do for work but I did manage to realize that I desperately needed a lot of white space and empty time in order to de-stress. Given that I come from a long line of people who are great at taking care of others and lousy at self-care, it's no surprise that my self-care was practically non-existent. During my year off, I worked out regularly, got a massage every month, slept as much as I wanted, and gradually learned to how to cook easy and nutritious meals for myself. All of that was key to restoring my physical and mental health, as well as helping me grow as a person. Fast forward to this past Monday, when my mastermind group met in Manhattan to plan out our businesses for 2011. As we went around the room sharing our goals for the year, many of us talked about our goal to amp up our self-care. Great self-care feels wonderful AND it's key to your business's growth, as I share in today's article. Best wishes for your success, Marcy Stahl Upcoming Events2/7/2011. Practice excellent self-care. What is self-care?
Why is self-care important? It turns out that self-care affects you and therefore your business
Superficially, great self-care gives you energy, and YOU are the engine for your business. This is like putting your oxygen mask on first, before you help others with their mask. If you become unconscious from lack of oxygen, you can't help anyone, period. In order for you to do your best in your business, to continue helping others to the best of your ability, you need to feel GREAT! Not just good, GREAT! If you want to receive more in life, try this: expect more. Feeling just OK, or mildly sluggish, or constantly stressed yet still able to function, is not aligned with expecting more or with receiving more. You have a right to feel great, vs. feeling crappy. One of my favorite sayings is: Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional. If you're suffering, it's most likely coming from your choice to do that. If you feel poorly, it's typically your choice (underlying physical illnesses excluded of course). Are you trying to get by on less sleep than you actually need? Do you even know how much sleep YOU personally need? Are you eating comfort food that's low in nutrition and high in sugar and fat? Great self-care helps gives you energy to do what you need to do, in an easy and relaxed way. Here's the deeper level around self-care: if you cannot take care of yourself - I'm not talking about taking care of other people, I'm talking about YOU taking care of YOU - if you cannot do that, that's a warning sign that you may have a problem with your deserve level. People with a low deserve level feel unable to give themselves adequate self-care, much less GREAT self-care! If you feel you deserve only the burnt toast, only the leftovers, only the scraps while other people get the full table, then you are not going to experience full abundance in your business. If you treat yourself as "less than", what kind of message are you giving to the universe about how you DESERVE to be treated and how you EXPECT to be treated? You are telling the universe that treating you as "less than" is OK, because that's the example you are setting for yourself. It's easy to overlook self-care and think: I just need to stay up late (or skip lunch or whatever) in order to grab an extra hour to work on this urgent task. However, when that becomes your "normal", that pattern you've established of cutting yourself off from what you need, of accepting less than ideal operating conditions for your precious body and soul, is what you're sending out to the universe as OK. If you want abundance, prosperity, and profits in 2011, then self-care is KEY to your growth and success. Feel free to take a nap or schedule a massage right now - you deserve it! CALL TO ACTION
If you answer NO to all or most of those questions, then self-care is a problem for you. It's also an area that you can invest some energy, time and money into in 2011, and be confident that it WILL make a difference for you and your business this year. If you want to feel GREAT physically and mentally, as well as make more money in 2011, then it's time for a complimentary Success Session with me. I can support you as you create an abundant mindset, as well as help you with practical business-building strategies. You can easily schedule your complimentary Success Session by clicking here. Here's what a recent Success Solutions participant had to say about their experience. "I felt that the time that we spent discussing my business and where I am poised to go with it was worth every minute. You know what you are doing and it is obvious that you have spent many hours (probably as obsessively as I have) in developing your services/product in to a truly elegant offering. I SOOOO appreciate the investment of your time and expertise in this little mini-session. It has already paid off, as far as starting to redirect my thought patterns and my expectations." Gwynne C.
